Guardianships

Guardianships

At Johnson, Chiligiris, & Weatherford we assist individuals with obtaining guardianships over their loved ones including disabled adults and minor children. We understand the struggles and stress the family is going through. We will focus on the legal requirements while the family can focus on the needs of the minor or disabled adult. In these matters typically a Guardian Ad Litem is appointed for the Ward. The GAL is another set of eyes for the Court to ensure that the Court is acting in the best interest of the ward.

  1. What is the nature of the relationship of the proposed Guardian and the disabled adult or the child?
  2. Has the disabled adult been declared incompetent by a licensed physician?
  3. Does the disabled adult already have a valid power of attorney in place?
  4. Are the biological parents of the minor consenting or involved?

What, if any, assets does the Ward have?
